Margie Serena Magill

Ms. Margie Serena Magill, 71, of Ridgeway passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2016. 

Born in Camden, SC on December 14, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Dorcas and Herman Magill.  Serena graduated from Winnsboro High School in 1963 and went on to graduate from Columbia Hospital School of Nursing and received her RN in 1968.   She was a nurse for a number of Columbia Hospitals, Fairfield Memorial, and at Lexington Hospital. 

In 1973, Serena began to work as a nurse for Juvenile Justice, but moved fairly soon to the responsibility of placing troubled and offending youth into homecare situations.  She remained there until her retirement.  According to a friend and co-worker Johnny Glover, “she was extraordinary in that capacity and was most successful in her efforts.”  Many young people were rescued and set on a successful path for life.  After retiring, she helped take care of her father and took care of her precious dogs. 

She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.  She is survived by her brother, Herman M. Magill “Mack” and his wife Cherie; nephew, Robert C. Magill and his husband Jacob Morgan; niece, Kristie Magill Weigel and her husband Robert; and great niece Brealynne Grace Weigel. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, June 20, 2016 at Aimwell Presbyterian Church with burial in Aimwell Cemetery.  The family will receive friends this Sunday afternoon, from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Pope Funeral Home. 

Memorials may be sent in Serena’s memory to Aimwell Presbyterian Church, 245 S. Means Street, Ridgeway, SC 29130.
