Colonel Benoni Orin Reynolds

Benoni Orin Reynolds, IV, formerly staff Judge Advocate at Headquarters Ninth Air Force, Shaw Air Force Base, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016.  Colonel Reynolds, 95, was born on Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on June 5, 1920, a son of the late Benoni O. Reynolds III and the late Florence Edwards Horne.  He held degrees of Ph.B. and JD from the University of Wisconsin and a MBA from Denver University.  He retired from the United States Air Force in 1970 after nearly 28 years of active and reserve service. 

Previous military assignments included combat duty in WWII with the twentieth Air Force in India and China, Staff Judge Advocate duties in Germany, Japan and Hawaii, and Assistant Professor of Law with the First faculty of the United States Air Force Academy.  Prior to coming to Shaw AFB in 1968, he served as Deputy Staff Judge Advocate at Headquarters PACAF, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, during the latter phase of the Vietnamese War.  From 1959 to 1963, he served as Assistant Executive Officer to Judge Advocate General to the Air Force in the Pentagon.

After retirement from the Air Force, Colonel Reynolds was a Trust Officer with NBSC and SCN Banks and practiced law in the Columbia area until 1993.  He was a registered Patent Attorney and active member of the Forest Lake Club, the Palmetto Club, and the Military Order of the World Wars. 

A Memorial service with full military honors will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Sion Presbyterian Church.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. 

Colonel Reynolds is survived by his wife Jacqueline; son Benoni Reynolds V and wife Joan; daughter Alicia Ann Alonzo and her husband James; stepdaughters Peni Chandler and her husband James, Jaye Herr and her husband Albert, and Beth Miller.  In addition, Colonel Reynolds is survived by eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. 

In addition to his parents, Colonel Reynolds is predeceased by his first wife, Allene Clark Reynolds; brother, James Reynolds; sister, Mary Reynolds; son, Russell Clark Reynolds and one grandson, Christopher Reynolds. 

Colonel Reynolds was a direct descendant of Benony Reynolds who fought with the New York Regiment in the Revolutionary War.
