William Mobley Jones “Bill”, 67, of Columbia and White Oak, SC, passed away on Saturday, May 6, at his home after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Susan Starnes Jones, and two daughters, Elizabeth Mobley Jones and Rebecca Starnes Jones. Bill is predeceased by his parents Thomas Henry Jones, Sr and Phyllis Mobley Jones of Columbia. He leaves a brother, Tom (Jean), sister Caroline (Jeff), niece Nathalie (Josh) and nephew Andrew. He also leaves a much beloved aunt, Jane Smith.
After attending USC, Bill worked as a general contractor in Columbia for more than 35 years. He was an accomplished captain and fisherman and made more than 200 trips to the Gulf Stream in his 23’ boat. Among his many talents, he was an excellent cook.
Bill spent as much time as possible at his family farm in White Oak, hunting, fishing, and farming. His family has many happy memories of their time spent there.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 10, at 11:00 AM at the family farm in White Oak, SC, 2857 Mobley Hwy. The family will receive visitors at their home after the service at 6100 Sylvan Dr throughout the afternoon.
