William “Bill” Logan Coleman Jr. passed away Thursday, July 20, 2023. He was born on June 23, 1940. He was the son of the late William Logan and Martha Smith Coleman.
Bill graduated from Mount Zion Institute in Winnsboro South Carolina in 1958 and The Citadel in 1962 with a Batchelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Bill served in the Army from 1963-65 and then moved to Columbia to begin his career with Sloan Construction Company. He later was a partner and president of Mustard-Coleman Construction company until 1989 when he retired. In 2009, he went to work with his son as a construction manager with Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering in Columbia.
He was a long time member of Providence Presbyterian Church where he was an elder, trustee, and a member of various other committees. Bill was a former member and president of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association and served on the arbitration board for the South Carolina Department of Transportation. He was a former member and president of the Greater Columbia Citadel Club. He also served on the board of the Lexington Medical Center and later became chairman for several years. He was a former member and chairman of the Lexington County Public Library. His hobbies were golfing, boating, spending time at Lake Wateree and watching his grandchildren participate in sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Carolyn Patrick Coleman, his children, daughters Kathryn Coleman Helms of Chapin and husband Jeff Hellerman; Carolyn “Lyn” Coleman and husband Tripp Hunter of Lexington and son, William “Billy” Logan Coleman III and wife Andi of Daniel Island, South Carolina; his brother Claude and Nancy Coleman of Chester South Carolina; grandchildren Kathryn Ashton Betancourt of Mount Pleasant and husband Ken, Tyler Helms, Hunter Helms, Tradd Hunter and wife Ashley, Coleman Hunter, William Hunter, Logan and Drew Coleman; and three great grandchildren, Brody, Adrianna and Penelope. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather “Deeds”, and will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2PM on Sunday, July 23rd at Providence Presbyterian Church located at 1112 Hummingbird Dr. W., Columbia, SC 29169 with funeral arrangements made by Pope Funeral Home of Winnsboro, SC. Officiating the service will be Dr. Michael Bragan, followed by the family receiving friends in the fellowship hall.
Memorials can be made to Providence Presbyterian Foundation in lieu of flowers.
