Virginia Park Dixon

Virginia Park Dixon passed away peacefully on January 15, 2022, at National Healthcare on Parklane following an extended illness at the age of 100.  She was the daughter of Archie Hugh Park and Sophie Chappell Park and she was one of eight children.  

She is survived by her sister, Sophie Park Coleman, of Blair, SC.  She was a graduate of Mt. Zion Institute in Winnsboro and following graduation at the age of 16, she attended Draughon’s Business College in Columbia.  She married her late husband, Julius Grayson Dixon, in 1939.  Virginia was very proud of her three children and enjoyed dressing them up and taking them to town to shop at the dime store in Winnsboro.  She would wait in the car while they shopped.  She was quite the businesswoman, and she managed the Duke Motel and Restaurant after the death of her husband. 

She is predeceased by her son, Julius Grayson Dixon, Jr.  Surviving are her daughter, Virginia Dixon Christian of Atlanta, GA; her son, William Brown Dixon (Sis) of Birmingham, AL; three granddaughters, Julie Carter Rowland (Hank) of St. Simons Island, GA, Virginia Sloan Dixon of Great Falls, SC and Helen Grayson Valentine (Sean) of Childersburg, AL, and seven great grandchildren.

 A private graveside service will be held with the immediate family in attendance.  The family especially wishes to thank her caregiver, Mia Johnson Hinson, for her excellent care and compassion.
