Stanley R. Hannon, Sr., of Winnsboro SC passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at the age of 64 after a battle with cancer.
Skip was born in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1953. He was the son of the late James L. Hannon and Audrey R. Hannon of Effort, Pennsylvania. Survivors include his loving wife of 44 +/- years Jane A. Hannon; daughter Heather Greenhill and her husband Rich of Oak Ridge, NC; son Stanley “Skipper” R. Hannon, Jr and his love Christie Duncan of Ridgeway; son Brian J. Hannon, Michelle Snipes of Columbia; son Mike J. Hannon and his wife Christy of Lexington; daughter in law Amanda Hannon of Blythewood; grandchildren Caleigh Greenhill, Addison Greenhill, Marshall Hannon, Madison Hannon, Samantha Hannon and John Hannon; Granddog Jake Hannon; brothers James Hannon and his wife Carol of Dagsboro, DE, Tim Hannon and his wife Michelle of Saylorsburg, PA; host of nieces and nephews and a brotherhood of firefighters. He is preceded in death by his son-in-love Robbie W. Lucas of Ridgeway, SC.
Skip was a graduate of Pleasant Valley High School and a member of the Western Pocono Jaycees. He retired from Mack Trucks after 30+ years and was a member of the UAW 677 and UAW 5841. He spent 45 years in the fire service beginning at West End Fire Company in PA and then serving at Community Fire Department and was currently the Assistant Chief of Greenbrier/Bethel Fire Department in Fairfield County. He was an instructor for the State Fire Academy and loved to share his knowledge of the fire service. He was a member of the SC Fire Chiefs Association and the Fairfield Fire Chiefs Association.Skip was also the Region 2 Mobilization Coordinator for SC Mobilization Team. He was the first non-paid volunteer President of the South Carolina State Firefighters Association and was currently their Past President. He is a member of the South Carolina Fire Fighters Hall of fame, and was a loyal civil servant until the very end. He was a member of Platt Springs United Methodist Church in West Columbia, SC. When he was not serving the community he was with his family and loved spoiling his grandchildren. He will forever be remembered as the one who let them eat chocolate cake for breakfast.
A service celebrating Skip’s life will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Platt Springs United Methodist Church, 3215 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29160, with burial to follow at Dust to Dust Cemetery 205 Nulty Crossing, Swansea, SC. The Hannon family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Platt Springs United Methodist Church.
