Pansy Nell Grooms Joye, 83, of Winnsboro passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020. Born and raised in Winnsboro on October 5, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Whitfield and Margaret Raines Grooms.
A graduate of Mt. Zion Institute, Pansy was a cosmetologist for over 40 years. She loved people and especially loved to make them laugh. Her genuine smile and witty remarks always were a delight to so many. She loved golf, listening to gospel music, and in her younger years, cheerleading. Her late father “Hicka Nut” Grooms built her a boat where she raced the men and beat them.
Her many talents include flower arranging and being a seamstress. She made her own clothes, even her prom dress and wedding dress made from curtains in her home.
She and JW would compete in BBQ cook-offs to support numerous children’s homes and charities, she was the sauce maker they would joke.
Pansy was a faithful member of Lake Wateree Baptist Church.
Pansy is survived by two daughters, Cheryl Ann Hartness (John) of Lake Wateree and Janet Lynn Joye of Blythewood; grandson, James Garrett Joye (Hall); granddaughter, Amanda Bell Pereira (Ronald); and two great grandchildren, Will and Ryan.
In addition to her parents and Husband, Junior Willard "JW" Joye, Pansy is predeceased by a son, Luther Garrett “Chuck” Joye.
A graveside service will be held at 10 o’clock AM Friday, July 31, 2020 at Stephen Greene Memorial Cemetery conducted by Reverend Mike Pelham. Social distancing guidelines will be implemented, and masks are required.
