Margaret Doty Obituary

Margaret Bruton Mays (Marnie) Doty, 82, of Winnsboro passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020 in White Rock, SC. She was born in Columbia, SC on September 10, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Frederick Lockehart Mays, Sr. and Elizabeth Bruton Mays. 

Marnie graduated from Dreher High School in Columbia, SC, and attended the University Of South Carolina. She moved to Winnsboro, SC in 1959 and lived there for 30 years. Marnie was a former member of Bethel ARP Church, Winnsboro Women’s Club, Winnsboro Music Study Group, The Anemone Garden Club of Winnsboro, the Thomas Woodward Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Winnsboro Cotillion. She volunteered with activities and events for Richard Winn Academy, The Pine Tree Players Community Theatre, and was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Marnie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and was a member of a local book club and bridge group. Her home was always welcome to visitors, and she entertained often.

In 1979, Marnie received her Realtor License, and sold real estate for 25 years. While in Winnsboro, she worked for Century 21 and later for David Brown Realty. After moving to Columbia in 1989, she sold real estate for The Bollin Company Realtors. Marnie was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, SC.

She is survived by two sons, Mark H. Doty, III and Locke Doty; two daughters, Ruth Anne Collins (Herb) and Margaret Elizabeth Doty; brother, F. Lockehart Mays; Jr. and two grandchildren, Mary Catherine Collins and Herbert Payne (Trey) Collins, III.    

Services for Mrs. Doty will be private. 

The family would like to thank the staff of The Heritage at Lowman, Lutheran Hospice, and family friend, Pat Sadler, for their compassionate care and love for Marnie. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Marnie’s memory to Lutheran Hospice, PO Box 805, White Rock, SC 29177.
