Julian Tanner Obituary

Julian Cecil Tanner, a man of great strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication, peacefully departed this life on March 6th, 2024. Born on November 2nd, 1946, Cecil was the beloved son of Lola Bell Berry Tanner and Floyd Ralph Tanner. He was one of nine siblings and was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Royce Tanner and Alvie Tanner.

Cecil leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of his surviving siblings: Floyd Tanner, Doris Tanner Reynolds, Johnny Tanner, Steve Tanner, Darrell Tanner, and Kevin Tanner. He was the devoted husband of Nora Ivey Tanner, whom he married on August 19th, 1966. Together, they built a life rich in love and shared countless memories.

A proud patriot, Cecil dedicated himself to serving his country, joining the Air Force at McEntire Joint National Guard Base on September 18th, 1965. Throughout his distinguished 36-year military career, he exemplified bravery and commitment, serving in conflicts such as Desert Storm and various Middle Eastern campaigns. He retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of honor and service.

Cecil's greatest joy lay in his family. He was the loving father of Mark Wayne Tanner (Lynn) and Mike Dell Tanner (Gina). His grandchildren, Brittany McKinney (Blake), Kelli Shealy (Collin), Russell Tanner (Michael), and Alex Tanner (Kenzie), and Hunter Ballenger were the lights of his life. He adored his great-grandchildren, Connor Shealy, Caleb Shealy, and Madelyn McKinney, who brought him boundless happiness.

Beyond his military and familial duties, Cecil was a pillar of his community, known for his generosity and compassion. He had a heart of service, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Whether tending to his farm or nurturing animals, Cecil's gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.

Cecil was a man of many talents, a true craftsman who could create beauty with his hands. His resilience, strength, and unwavering faith in the face of adversity served as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a cherished friend.

Though Cecil may have left this world, his legacy of love, integrity, and kindness will forever endure. May his memory continue to be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace.
