John Spencer Watts passed away on October 5, 2021, at the age of 74. Born in Winnsboro, S.C. on November 30, 1946, was the son of the late Isaac Henderson Watts and Ella Hall Watts.
He was predeceased by four brothers: Jennings, Cleveland, Carl, and Lindsey; and three sisters: Lucille, Leona, and JoAnn. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Clyburn Watts, “his lovely bride” of 54 years; his daughter, Cassie (Brian) Borough, and one granddaughter Brooke Ellen Borough, all of Lexington, S.C., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Spencer attended Longtown Presbyterian Church, was a life-time member of Ridgeway Masonic Lodge and a life-time member of VFW Post 8346. He retired from DuPont; S.C. Air National Guard and was a veteran of Desert Storm/Desert Shield. He was proud of his, and his family’s service to his country. As he grew older, he strived to be at peace with God; treat others as he would like to be treated; enjoyed the outdoors; laughed; had a cold beer; and enjoyed his visits with friends. He was a strong, independent man and a caring, loving husband, father, and grandpa. He enjoyed traveling in U.S. and abroad with his wife, and felt he had a blessed life. He will be missed by many.
The family will receive friends for visitation in Friday evening October 8 from 5-7 o’clock PM at Pope Funeral Home, Winnsboro, S.C. A graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock AM Saturday October 9 at Longtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. For everyone’s safety, masks are required for both services.
The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice of S.C., nurse Marcy, LaShondra, and Chelsea for the loving care and help they gave the family during this time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 100902, Columbia, S.C.; Longtown Presbyterian Church General Fund, 8010 Longtown Road, Ridgeway, S.C. 29130; or a charity of one’s choice.
