Obituary

Joel Price Padgett, 66, of Winnsboro, cherished husband of Joanne Boys Padgett, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2021 at his home. He was born in Charleston, SC on May 31,1954 to Anne Vroman Padgett and the late Guy Vernon Padgett, Sr.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 25 years, Joanne; his son, Gregory Padgett (Sara Beth Haring); step-daughters, Melissa White (Tripp) and Kelly Matthews (Raymond); brother, Guy “Bub” Padgett, Jr. (Pam); sister, Patricia “Pat” Shealy (Allen); four grandchildren, Blanding and Charlotte White, and Holly and Ray Matthews; and best friend Robert “Bob” Faller (Liza).

In addition to his father, Joel is predeceased by his sister, Anne “Nan” Pitts (Harold).

Joel was a Geologist III at SCDHEC, a job he truly enjoyed. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved mountain and road biking, hiking, scuba diving, and camping. In his free time, he could be found reading a history novel, cooking, or working on various home improvement projects.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oliver Gospel Mission, Harvest Hope Food Bank, or Rails to Trails Conservancy.

The Padgett family wishes to express sincere appreciation to SCOA and MSA Hospice of Camden for the caring services they provided.
