Iris Gwendolyn “Gwen” Haygood Craft, 71 of Blythewood, SC passed away August 12, 2022. Born in Blythewood, she was the daughter of Johnny Boy Haygood and Ola Mae Frick Haygood and the sister of Betty Ann Haygood (the late Jack) Ramsey.
Gwen was a loving and devoted wife to Alfred L. Craft and mother to Lora “Michelle” Waddell. The stepmother of Pam Renee (Nik) Rodriguez, Leigh Ann (Rick) Burke, and the late Melanie Braziel (Jimmy) Shumpert. She was the proud “Big Granny” of Kenndra Michelle James and Todd Kenneth James. And step “Big Granny” to Brittany Gainey, Devin Gainey Hannah Gainey, Morgan Craft, Joshua Glover, Rayma Shumpert and Justin Shumpert. And the doting “Great Big Granny” of Oliver Michael James and step great grandchild Isabelle Craft. Her nieces and nephews include Elizabeth “Beth” (Jimmy) Joyner, John Robert “Robby” Ramsey, and Tammy Ramsey; great nephews Jay (Caroline) Joyner, Sam Joyner, Paul (Allison) Ramsey, Daryl Ramsey, Miranda (Clint) Harris, Robert Ramsey and Jodi Bigham; and great great nephews Colton Ramsey, Paul “PJ” Ramsey, Jr. and Nathan Harris.
During her career, Gwen worked with the SC State Treasurers Office, Fairfield County Substance Abuse and eventually retired from Fairfield Memorial Hospital. An active member of the community, she and her husband Alfred attended North Columbia Church of God.
Known as “Gwenkie” to her family, Gwen’s giving nature was evident in everything she did including serving an iterum guardian/parent for both extended family and members of the community. She enjoyed being outdoors in her flower garden and spending time with her family and her furbabies Bitsy and Ruby. Her sense of humor and giving heart made everyone feel instantly welcomed in her home.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
