Helen Lewis Wilkes, 90, of Winnsboro, SC passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2022. She was the daughter of the late James Wilburn Lewis and Josephine Coleman Lewis.
Helen graduated Greenbrier High School and attended Winthrop College. She was a homemaker, worked on the farm, and raised four children prior to starting a career with the Fairfield County School system. She retired after 19 years as administrative assistant to Superintendent of Education.
She was a former member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church and served as circle chairman on the hospitality committee and the pastor search committee. After many years, she transferred her membership to Salem Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents and husband of 67 years, James Francis "Frank" Wilkes, Sr. Helen is predeceased by sister, Lucy Lewis McMaster. She is survived by three daughters, Diane Wilkes Goebel (Ronnie), Barbara Wilkes Wheatley (Jim), and Kaye Wilkes Gaddy (Ricky); son, James Francis “June” Wilkes, Jr., five grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sister, Betty Lewis Davis; nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her loving and devoted pet Skeebo.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 24, 2022 from 4-6 o’clock p.m. at Pope Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Salem Presbyterian Church conducted by Reverend Richard Hodges. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
