Helen Chappell Crumpton, 99, of Jenkinsville, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2020. Born in Jenkinsville, she was the daughter of the late Thompson and Martha Elizabeth Weimer Chappell.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Norwood Crumpton (Sarah) and Zack “Tommy” Crumpton (Linda); four grandchildren, Sara Lynn Kozak (John), Charles Norwood Crumpton, Jr. (Charlie), Aimee Deming (Todd), and Betsy Steele (Dan).; four great grandchildren, Zackary, Madison, Brett, and Lucas; and three great-great grandchildren, Parker, Arlowe, and Emery.
In addition to her parents and husband of 70 years, Zack Crumpton, Helen is predeceased by one brother, and five sisters.
Helen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed working in her garden, making flower arrangements, writing poetry and painting. As a young girl she was nicknamed “Little Miss Hell Cat”. Those that knew her, understood why. She spent countless hours documenting the Chappell family and Jenkinsville history. She loved sharing it with family and friends whenever anyone came to visit. She was devoted to her Christian faith and loved her family with all her heart. She prayed every night that she would be reunited with her beloved husband, Zack, of 70 years and the rest of her family.
Helen wanted more than anything to be able to stay in her “little house” until she died. That would not have been possible if Tommy did not “live down the hill” and the love and care of her granddaughter Aimee and her special care giver, Stacey Johnson. In her final days Stacey never left her side.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o’clock AM Thursday, February 27, 2020 at Shiloh UMC Cemetery, in Jenkinsville. It is located across the street from the Jenkinsville Post Office (11298 SC 215 South). The family will receive friends after the service at Tommy and Linda’s house.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shiloh Cemetery Fund, 141 Jenkinsville Road, Jenkinsville, SC 29065.
Pope Funeral Home is serving the Crumpton family.
