Gerald Thomas “Tom” Sherrod, 75, of Winnsboro passed away on June 14, 2022. Born in Nash County, N.C. on September 2, 1946, he was the son of the late Sammy R and Sadie Mae Worrell Sherrod.
He is survived by his wife, Sarah Irene Sherrod; three stepsons, James Wallace, Augusta, GA, Danny (Barbara) Windham, and Roger (Michelle) Windham both of Winnsboro; brother, Johnny (Kim) Sherrod of Nashville, NC; three sisters, Edith (Frank) Clemmons of Endfield, NC, Bertie Mae (Claude) Mercer of Bailey, NC, Barbara Ann Brantley of Wilson, NC; 15 grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tom is predeceased by four brothers, Joseph Sherrod, Redmond Sherrod, Jacob Sherrod, and Winslow Sherrod; and four sisters, Margie Dorsey, Eunice Bryant, Mary “Jean” Denton, and Ora Lee Abernathy.
Tom served in the US Army in Vietnam. He also worked for the United States Postal Service for 27 years and drove a cab for 23 years. He was a Mason in the Pacific Lodge for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Carolina Rebels Bluegrass band where he was lead singer and guitarist for 35 years.
Funeral services will be held at 12 o'clock Pm Saturday, June 18, 2022 at First Pentecostal Holiness Church, 691 Columbia Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180. Burial will follow at 2 o'clock PM at Elmwood Cemetery, 501 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201.
