Mrs. Carolyn Arant Miller, age 90 passed away on July 25, 2023. Born in
Columbia on May 14, 1933, she was the eldest daughter of the late Nell
Clarke Arant and Francis “Mike”Marion Arant of Gadsden, SC.
She was married to the late Dr. James “Jim” William Miller.
Carolyn graduated from Wingate College and was a medical technician for
many years at the WJB Dorn Veterans Hospital, Baptist Hospital and
Fairfield Memorial. After she and her husband married, they moved to
Auburn, Alabama for his completion of Veterinary School at Auburn
University. Carolyn worked at nearby Lee County Hospital in Opelika,
Alabama. The couple returned to South Carolina and opened the Fairfield
Animal Clinic and spent years working with animals. Carolyn continued to
groom and care for pets for many years after her husband passed away
.Later in life, Carolyn worked as a dietician at Richard Winn Academy until
she was 80 years old.
Carolyn enjoyed her children, cooking, sewing, and telling stories. She
especially loved Auburn University. She was a 50+year member of the
Clemson Extension Club and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.
Carolyn was a dedicated mother to her five children. She is survived by her
son, Vince Miller of North Little Rock, Arkansas, daughters Karen Johnson
(John) of Greenwood, SC, Catherine Addis of Winnsboro, SC, Frances
Goodwin (Bob) of Camden, SC and Donna Miller of Winnsboro, SC. She
was extremely proud of her two grandsons, Kirkland Davis and Andrew
Davis. She is also survived by her sister, Libby Gambrell (Steve) of Lyman
SC and her sister-in-law, Mary Catherine Norwood of Camden,SC.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Jim Miller and her sister
Marion Ruth Reynolds.
A memorial service will be held Saturday July 29th at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Winnsboro with a reception to greet the family immediately following the service at the Parrish House at the church.
