Margaret Phillips Stevenson

September 9, 1917 ~ February 20, 2019 (age 101) 101 Years Old

Margaret Stevenson Obituary

Mrs. Stevenson was born on Sept 9,1917 in Winnsboro, SC.  She was the daughter of Thomas Edward and Elizabeth Tennant Phillips.  Rosa Tennent Hollis and Daniel James Hollis adopted her when she was 10 yrs old after her mother died.  

She was married to the late James Edwin Stevenson for fifty-two years. 

She was a lifelong member of Sion Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, Senior High Youth leader along with her husband and active circle member.

She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. 

She worked for the federal government’s Farmer’s Home Administration for many years and later during WWII, she was employed by Fairfield Electric Cooperative.  She later worked for Clemson Extension where she retired after 25 years of service. 

At age 84, she moved to Camden to be near her children.  She participated in the Camden Poet’s Society and even had one of her poems published in the Sept/Oct 2018 edition of Camden Living Magazine.  While in Camden, she also attended Bethesda Presbyterian Church but kept her membership at Sion Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro.

Mrs. Stevenson is predeceased by her husband, Ed; four sisters, Katherine Hollis Hanna, Elizabeth Gorden, Janet Owens and Rosemary Phillips; and one brother, Robert Edward Phillips.

Surviving are her sons, Daniel Edwin Stevenson and James Ebenezer Stevenson (Carolyn); her daughter, Kathryn Jayne Stevenson Funderburk (Steve Lakey); her nephews, Lee Roy Hanna (Mary), Doug Stevenson (Pooum), Bob Stevenson (Dunya), Henry Phillips and Thomas Phillips; and nieces, Susan Bolick, Sandra Phillips, Cathy Phillips, and Mary Louise Gordon Fountain.  She is survived by a sister –in –law, Gertrude Stevenson. 

She has 6 grandchildren Harold Williams “Trey” Funderburk, III (Chance Tomlin), Rachel Stevenson, Winn Stevenson, Tiffany Maples (Brantley), Michael Hanna (Jo) and Phillip Hanna (Katie McEwan). 

She has two great grandchildren, Ethan and Emma Maples.  

She was also blessed to have wonderful caregivers who we all love as family:  Joan Deal, Donald Woodard, Janet Rodgers, Dawn Johnson and Estela Ham. 

Special thanks goes to Dr. Robert Shulze of Columbia Heart and his staff and Dr. Susan Munn and the staff at Camden Family Care for all the wonderful care, support and kindness they gave to Margaret and her family.

Graveside services will be held at 2 o'clock Pm Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Sion Presbyterian Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.  

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Sion Presbyterian Church, 116 West Washington Street, Winnsboro, SC 29180,  Fostering Foster Animal Rescue, 1718 Kennedy Street, Camden, SC 29020, or a charity of your choice.
