Lucy Anne Boulware Steele "Puggy"

Lucy Anne “Puggy” Steele, 87, of Charleston, formerly of Winnsboro and Georgetown, SC went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 30, 2018.  Born in Rock Hill, SC, she was the daughter of the late Dr. John Hugh and Lucy McDonald Boulware. 

She was a member of Bethel ARP Church where she was a Sunday school Teacher, youth group leader, and member of the lady’s circle.  While in Charleston, she attended Harvest for Christ Fellowship.  Lucy Anne was graduated from Mt. Zion Institute and attended Converse College.  She was graduated from the University of South Carolina with bachelor’s degrees in English and Fine Arts.  She continued with graduate work at USC while teaching in the South Carolina public school system and retired after twenty-eight years of service. 

She is survived by two sons, Marcus Lee Steele (Suzanne) and Eric Au Steele (Lynne); daughter, Anne McDonald Jennings McDermott; eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In addition to her parents, first husband, Dr. James Marvin Jennings, Sr. and second husband, Joseph Leo Steele; Lucy Anne is predeceased by a son, James Marvin Jennings, Jr.; son in law, Michael Joseph McDermott; and two sisters, Mary McMaster Boulware Martin and Lil Boulware Jordan. 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Bethel ARP Church conducted by Reverend Clyde McCants and Reverend James McManus.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.  Burial will be private.
