John McNair Turner, 85, of Winnsboro, SC, passed away on July 29, 2017 in the presence of his loving family. Born January 28, 1932 in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Izetta Milton Clarke and Maxie Watson Turner.

John Turner attended Mt. Zion Institute (Class of 1950) and earned his degree from Clemson University in 1954, where he was also a member of the Clemson College Band Company. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Army as an infantry Lieutenant in Frankfurt, Germany. Following his service to his country, he joined Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, then opened The Men Store in Winnsboro, and later retired from Toledo Scales in 1997.

He married the late Jane Bethea Lewis in 1959. Of this union were born two children, Beth (Dan) Kienker and John Turner Jr. He also has three grandchildren, Deeds (Stefanie) Kienker, Emily Kienker and Taylor Kienker. In 1999, he married Emily Rogers McMeekin.

John is also survived by his sister, Catherine Turner Arnette.

John was a lifelong Presbyterian and member of Sion Presbyterian Church (USA). He loved the great outdoors, hunting, fishing, wood working and was passionate about Clemson football.

Family and friends may visit at Sion Presbyterian Church, 116 W. Washington Street, Winnsboro, SC 29180 on August 2, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenbrier United Methodist Church Cemetery, 681 Greenbrier Mossydale Road, Winnsboro, SC 29180.

Memorial donations may be given to Sion Presbyterian Church or Greenbrier United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
