Joann Welch Burroughs, 85, of Winnsboro, South Carolina passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at Prisma Baptist Hospital in Columbia. She was born to the late James Wesley Welch, Sr., and Annie Brooks Welch on January 21, 1934 in Winnsboro, South Carolina. She graduated from Mount Zion Institute in 1952. She was married to the late Enoch Clem Burroughs in June 1952.
Joann is survived by her four children: Clem Enoch Burroughs, James "Jimmy" Elmer Burroughs (Cheri), Joseph "Jody" Lewis Burroughs (Edy), and Baettie Ann Burroughs Douglas. Affectionately known as Nana Jo, she is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Jason Taylor Burroughs (Dawne), Jonathan Welch Burroughs (Tiffiny), Kathryn Burroughs McDaniel (Kevin), James "Jae" Marion Burroughs (Chelsey), Joseph "Joey" Lewis Burroughs, Jr. (Nicholle), Blythe Douglas Headden (Richard), Jennifer "Jenna" Burroughs Hazen (Max), Zachary "Zach" Covin Burroughs (Samantha), as well as 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and her beloved dog Gizzy. Joann is survived by her brother, Reverend James Wesley Welch, Jr.of Due West and special niece and nephew that she thought of as children, Roger Burroughs (Sharoyn) and their four children, and Linda Burroughs Ritchie and her two children.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joann is predeceased by her sister Ernestine Welch.
As a faithful servant to the Lord, Joann was a lifelong member of Winnsboro Church of God where she enjoyed Christian fellowship and singing in the choir. Over the years, Joann worked at Clemson Extension and retired from Master Tire Company. After retiring, she worked as a greeter at the Winnsboro Walmart and served as a volunteer at the Cornerstone Thrift Store.
Joann's joy in life was spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed both gardening and cooking. Joann was well known for her famous dill pickles. Her greatest gift to those who knew and loved her was her ability to make them feel like a part of her family.
Funeral services will be held on May 21, 2019, at 11:00 a,m at Cornerstone Church of God. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and after the burial. Burial will immediately follow at Royal Pines Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Cornerstone Church of God or Christ Central.
During this time, the family will be gathering at the home of Joann's daughter, Baettie Douglas.
