Mr. James L. “Jim” Hill, 92, of Winnsboro, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2019. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Dudley William Hill and Harriett Brown Hill.
He was married to the love of his life, Margaret Calcutt Hill, for 71 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed being with his family and his church family at Washington Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He built handicap ramps with the men of the church for people who needed them. He was owner of C&C Grocery and had the best hot dogs in town.
He is survived by his wife and his children: Deborah (Grover) Hickman; Terry (Beverly) Hill; Tony (Robin) Hill; Mickey Hill; Stacey (Steve) Wilson. His nine grandchildren: Dana Aragon, Harriet Comstock (Nick), Meggin Arnett, Olivia Patton (Gregory), Mallory Hill, Mitchell Hill, Clayton Galloway (David), Dalton Wilson, Zachariah Wilson. His eight great-grandchildren: Ella Rimer, Caroline Carpenter, Pierson Carpenter, Ezra Gilbert, Karissa Peake, Kelly Hill, Dakodah Hill, and the late Emma Cutshaw. His brothers Frank Hill, DW (Margie) Hill, Thomas (Mary Lee) Hill, and sister-in-law Lucille Hill.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Christine Flowers (Monroe), Mildred Gilchrist (TW), his brothers William Hill, Carl Hill, and his sister-in-law Rita Hill.
Funeral services for Jim will be held at 3 o’clock PM Sunday, November 3, 2019 at Washington Street Baptist Church. Burial with military honors will follow in Fairfield Memorial Cemetery, Smalltown Rd, Winnsboro. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6-8 o’clock PM at the church.
