Edna Frances Barfield Cook passed peacefully on October 5, 2019, at her little piece of Heaven after a brief period of declining health. She was born in Kershaw, SC, to Edward and Mattie Geneva Bowers Barfield on March 5, 1932.
She spent her early years in Camden, SC, and married Carl William Cook on December 24, 1947.
Frances was an accomplished self-taught artist, quilter, seamstress and craftswoman. She would often be inspired by a nature scene or design and come home to start painting or sewing. There was nothing she couldn’t do or create. After retiring from Uniroyal, she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, traveling to the mountains with her daughters and working on her art.
She is survived her devoted daughters, Paulette Lewis (Johnny) of Woodward and Marie Evans of Winnsboro, and a brother, Edward Barfield of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kerri Hutchins, Carla Moore (JC), John Lewis (Alex), Julie Evans, Sherri Mattox (Kevin), Ronnie Cook (Jennifer) and Matthew Evans (Reena). Her great grandchildren are Kelli Shealy (Collin), Russell Tanner, Cassie Hutchins, Sydney Cook, Clayton Moore, Abigail Lewis, Sam Mattox, Wyatt Evans, Olivia Mattox, Charlotte Lewis, Alex Cook and Taylor Cook. She was blessed to know her two great-great grandchildren Connor Shealy and Lilly Mae Trotter.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband, a sister, Pauline Ray and brother Donnie Barfield, as well as her beloved son Ronald Alan Cook.
The memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 8 at 12 noon at Stephen Greene Baptist Church, 500 7th Street, Winnsboro, with Pastor Ethan Brown and the Reverend Doctor Michael Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends at 11 am prior to the service in the sanctuary. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Fairfield Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, PO Box 60, Winnsboro SC 29180, to honor Frances’ love for animals.
Pope Funeral Home is assisting the Cook family.
