Funeral services for Elmer Lindsay Driggers, Sr., age 87, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 at First Church of the Nazarene in Winnsboro conducted by Reverend Harry Varn. Burial will follow in Royal Pines Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday evening at Pope Funeral Home.
Mr. Driggers, beloved husband of Evelyn Carter Driggers, passed away on July 28, 2012 in the Warriors Walk unit of Dorn VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late Lewis Edward and Mamie Enlow Driggers, born in Winnsboro on September 13, 1924. He served honorably in the US Army during WWII as an infantryman and antitank gun crewman in the 78th Lightning Division. His distinguished service included fighting at The Battle of the Bulge as well as service in the European Theater. His awards include a Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
After service, Mr. Driggers was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Winnsboro.
In addition to his wife of 59 years, Evelyn, he is survived by his children Jonnette (Donald) Thier, E. Lindsay (Ann) Driggers, Jr., Kathryn (Wayne) Wooten, Allan Driggers, Gene Driggers, Richard (Susanna) Driggers, Ann (Glenn) Anderson; 19 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
