Memorial services for William Paul “Billy” Melton, Sr., 82, of Irmo will be held at 11:00 am Friday, May 19, 2017 at First United Methodist Church in Winnsboro, SC conducted by Reverend Julie Belman and Reverend Bundy Bynum.  Burial will be private.  The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall. 

Billy passed away on Monday, May 15, 2017.  Born in Winnsboro, he was the son of the late Donald Leroy and Lois Ramsey Melton.   Billy attended Wofford College and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Pharmacy, Cum Laude.  Known as Mr. Billy by many of his associates, he owned and operated Med-I-Thrift Pharmacy as well as Melton’s Market-Eze Convenience store.  Billy was a member of the Winnsboro Rotary Club having served as its President. He was also twice elected to Fairfield County Council serving as chairman.  He was also a member of the Board of Richard Winn Academy.  Upon retiring as a pharmacist, he joined his wife, Ann Frazier Melton, in the Real Estate and Development industry.  He, along with his wife, and son, “D” Melton, developed and sold numerous neighborhoods in the Midlands. 

He is survived by his wife, Ann Frazier Melton; three sons, Edward Crawford Melton (Esther), Donald “D” Owens Melton, and Rhett Ramsey Melton; one daughter, Retta Taylor (Rod); Step-son, Marion Turner Pope, Jr. (Stephanie); Step-daughter, Frances Pope Everingham; eight grandchildren, Paul, Courtney, Crawford, Edward, Hillary, Emily, Bailey, and Zackery; four step-grandchildren, Elice, Camden, Lawson, and Liam; and five great grandchildren.  He was affectionately known as “YaYa” to his grandchildren and great children. 

In addition to his parents and first wife, Suzanne Crawford Melton, Billy is predeceased by one son, William Paul Melton, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Billy’s memory to First United Methodist Church, 101 W College Street, Winnsboro SC 29180.   The family would like to express their thanks and gratitude to Diane Melton for her devotion and love of the family.  Also, they would like to express their gratitude to MSA Hospice Care, namely Kelly and Josette, for their tender compassion and care.
