Shirley Turner Powell

Mrs. Shirley Turner Powell, 82, of Lake Wateree passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.  Born in Nichols, SC, she was the daughter of the late Hope and Dessie Brown Turner. 

Shirley worked as an executive secretary for overnight transportation until she retired in 1978.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and cherished friend by all she met.  She was active with Midland baseball, football, and cheerleading.  Her true greatest passions were her husband Carlysle and fishing.  She was looking forward to fishing again with Carlysle to see who could catch the biggest crappy. 

She is survived by two sons, David Nolton Powell and Patrick Carlysle Powell; daughter, Pamela Shawnelle Powell; two sisters, Eunice P. Blanton and Rachel T. Turner; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. 

In addition to her parents and husband, Billy Carlysle Powell, Shirley is predeceased by a son, Billy Carlysle Powell, Jr. 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Lake Wateree Baptist Church, 5856 River Road, Ridgeway, SC 29130 conducted by Reverend Mike Pelham.  The family will receive friends at the home from 10:00 to 12:00 Saturday morning.
