Mary McMaster Boulware Martin passed away at her home in Winnsboro on June 13.  She was born in Winnsboro March 21,1924, the daughter of Lucy McDonald Boulware and John Hugh Boulware, MD.  She was educated at Mt. Zion Institute, Winthrop College, and the University of South Carolina where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority.

She married John Alfred Martin in1943, and they had four children.  Three surviving children, Lucinda Shirley of Columbia; Dubose (Bosie) Rivers Martin (Liz) also of Columbia; Dr. Marianne “May” Johnson (Tim) of Statesville, North Carolina. Mrs. Martin was predeceased by her husband and her son, John Alfred “Johnny’ Martin, Jr.

 Also surviving are grandchildren Glenn Shirley (Nancy); Miller Safrit (Laura); Brad Johnson (Anna), Ryan Johnson, Beth Martin, Rivers Martin, Sally Vernon (Dax), and Holly Clarkson; great-grandchildren, Emmalee Shirley, Nicole Kratzer; Ethan and Kaitlyn Safrit; Hayden, McKenzie, and Oliver Johnson.  Mrs. Martin is survived by her sister, Lucy Ann Steele of Winnsboro and Charleston, as well as nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Martin served Bethel ARP Church in a number of capacities during her lifetime and was a member of the Fairfield County Council on Aging Board of Directors. She also supported local, national, and international aid organizations.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 15 at Bethel Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro, South Carolina.  Rev. James McManus will officiate.  The family will receive friends in the church social hall following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to USA for UNHCR (UN Refugee Agency), PO Box 97114, Washington, DC 20077; Bethel ARP Church, N. Zion Street, Winnsboro 29180, or the charity of one’s choice. 

The family is grateful for the loving care of Luvenia Bowers, Mary Ann Belk, Gloria Robinson, Carleina Sanders, Glenda Sanders, Tammy Sanders who made it possible for their mother to spend her last years at home.  And thanks, as well, to Compassionate Care Hospice.
