Jerry Lynn Cope, 67, of Winnsboro, SC went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on June 1, 2016 after a brief illness. Born August 25, 1948 in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late Alfred Morgan (Whitey) Cope and the late Cleo Wall Cope. Jerry was a dearly loved husband, son, father, brother, Papa, uncle and friend.

He was a 1966 graduate of Eau Claire High School, and received his Associates Degree from The University of South Carolina. He also served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. He worked for nearly 20 years in the accounting department of Standard Products before starting his own business in lawn maintenance and tree removal. Life drastically changed for Jerry and his family on August 27, 2010, when he suffered a traumatic brain injury, but he always knew his family and friends, never lost his sense of humor or his ability to give great big bear hugs. Prior to his injury, one would most often find Jerry on the lawn mower or tractor working. Occasionally he would take a break from work to fish or hunt. He was a member of Crooked Run Baptist Church since 1979.

Jerry is survived by his high school sweetheart and devoted wife of nearly 48 years, Elaine Boney Cope, and by his three sons, Heath Cope (Terry) of Lancaster, SC, Joseph Cope (Amy) of Irmo, SC and Trim Cope of the home. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kurstin Cope, Morgan Cope, Tucker Cope, Vicki Blackmon (Daniel), Trystan Tingberg and Alexis Tingberg, and by great-granddaughter Kennedi Boling, and by his brother Larry Cope (Nancee) of Irmo, SC, sister-in-law Joanne Ross of Charlotte, NC, and by many nieces, nephews, devoted cousins and lifelong friends.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Charles McElmurray and his staff at John Martin Primary for their attentive care. Also, they wish to express heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff on 8th floor west and to the USC Family Medicine Team at Palmetto Health Richland who cared for Jerry with great compassion.

Pope Funeral Home is assisting the family where they will receive family and friends on Friday, June 3 from 6-8 pm at 521 South Congress Street in Winnsboro. A service celebrating his life will be at Crooked Run Baptist Church on Saturday, June 4 at 11 am.
