Gary O’Neal Brown, 69, passed away on August 3, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer.  He was born March 2, 1947, in Greer, South Carolina. He is the son of the late Francis Cauthen and Sherry M. Cauthen of Lancaster, SC.

At age 18, Gary moved to Winnsboro and became a barber where he cut hair on the same corner for over 50 years.  Gary loved his customers and the conversations, probably more than he enjoyed cutting hair.  Gary was the definition of “jack of all trades”.  Aside from cutting hair he also owned Gary Brown’s Trophies and Gary Brown’s Video Productions. He never missed filming a local high school football game or a Town or County Council meeting.  When he wasn’t working, you could find him on a golf course making small wagers with his golfing buddies.  The number of friends and family who cherish Gary is a testament to what a staple he has been in their lives and the community. Winnsboro will not be the same without Downtown Gary Brown.

As committed as Gary was to his jobs, he was equally committed to his family.  He loved deeply and he was loved deeply.

In addition to his father, Gary is predeceased by a grandson, Conner Brown, a granddaughter Victoria Kelly; brothers Paul E. Brown, and Jack Brown; sister Frances Oler.

Gary is survived by his mother Sherry Cauthen; daughters Tammy Howle (Chad) of Hartsville, SC, Patti Brown, of Winnsboro, SC, Suzie Davis (Stephen), of Winnsboro, SC; grandchildren Kandyce  Tyner (Jason) of Elgin, SC, Asheley  Kelly and Eden Kelly, of Florence, SC, Ryan Davis and  Corey Davis  of Winnsboro, SC, and Chason Howle; great-grandchildren Emalee, Leksie, and Ayden Johnson; brothers, Richard Brown (Sandy) of Hagerstown, IN, and Kenneth Brown (Linda) of Monroe, NC; Sister, Faye Morrison, of Hartsville, SC.

Special thanks and love go out to the wonderful staff and caregivers at South Carolina Oncology Associates and Palmetto Richland.
