He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1960.  Scotty served his country in the Army Reserves for several years while working in the construction business in Greenwood before he began working for the granite company. That would eventually bring him to Blair where he would make his home for the remainder of his life.

While in Fairfield County he served his community by volunteering in the Blair Volunteer Fire Department.  He also served for several years on the Fairfield County Fire Board, and some of those years as chairman of the board.  Scotty later volunteered and worked for the Fairfield Council on Aging in Winnsboro.

Scotty loved working outdoors, fishing, was an avid Coca-Cola fan and was a member of the Coca-Cola Club of America.  He loved his Clemson Tigers, Atlanta Falcons, and the Braves.

Scotty is predeceased by his parents; wife, Weda Jo Houze Bartless; step-son, Clint Corley and step-daughter, Catherine Anne Wright.

Scotty leaves behind his fiancé, Brenda Wells Shull of the home; his daughter, Katie Ragsdale Lytton and husband Matt of Shelby, NC; grandson, Levi Lytton also of Shelby; step-son, Phillip Corley and wife Gale of Johnston, SC; step-daughters, Sue Campbell and Faye Tulis both of Greenwood, SC; brothers, Edward Bartless of Greenwood, Henry Bartless and wife Lita of Bethlehem, Georgia, Bobby Bartless and his wife Vicky of Greenwood; and sister-in-law, Jane Castles and husband Sam of Winnsboro.  He also leaves behind six step-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at Crooked Run Baptist Church, 7978 State Highway 269, Winnsboro, on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon.   Interment will be private.  Visitation with the family will occur an hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.
